More More Art Art

Life goes on as usual. My mom is in Jamaica this week, so I am queen of the house. Which should be more exciting than it is, as mostly, I've done the same things as if she were here (art, pretend to work on resumes, talk to George on Gchat all day).... I have actually made significant room cleaning progress, removing several metric tons of empty coke bottles/cans and locating huge swaths of floor as well as unpacking my spring/summer clothes. I am kinda freaked out by how clean my bathroom is at the moment.
Also, today is the last day of March... meaning today is the last day of the March Art Journal Challenge.

3/25- Words; 3/26- Photograph (Friedman refers to this as a myspace photo b/c I took it of myself)

3/27- Think; 3/28 "Ideas are like rabbits, you get a couple and learn how to handle them, and pretty soon you have a dozen."- John Steinbeck (Flavortext at the top says "Plot Bunnies"- there has been a large quantity of fanfic in my life this week. I blame George.)

3/29- Splatter; 3/30- Pencil & Gesso, Gesso & Pencil

3/31- One for the road; Bonus- not assigned, but I wanted to use both sides (OCD, me? Never) The End

Bonus Bonus- This Is A Fire Door Never Leave Open
(This is a terrible pic of a page that came out quite nicely. About/for one of the lovely gentlemen in my life (ha). If you can't guess who, you don't know me very well. Eventually, there will be 2 more of these... but as I am expecting Friedman in about 10 minutes, not today.)

Tomorrow I am going into the city to see George and attend a reading of Steve's play. Should be interesting. Then Friday, I'm off to the Met to see the Victorian Collage exhibit before it closes.

Art Dump

More shitty pics of my work for the march art journal daily prompts
I've done a terrible job keeping up with the "daily" bit - partially b/c some days I have no interest in the prompt, or because I get busy... or I'm absorbed into other art and forget to work on it and then I get behind and the days pile up.
Regardless, I eventually catch back up, so here it is:

3/15- Self Portrait (this page is totally not done); 3/16- Pretend

3/17- Corned Beef, Carrots, Potatos, Cabbage (can you tell this prompt didn't excite me?); 3/18- Black Ink

3/19- Layers (text says "Peel Back the Layers" "To Get To The Heart Of The Matter"); 3/20- Watch A Movie

3/21- Play; 3/22- Stiches

3/23- Profanity (speech bubble says "Fuck Off"); 3/24- Die Cuts (which I don't own)

Also, only one bonus piece this week, because I haven't figured out a way to scan the comics yet.

Also tonight is the last night of my ceramics class, so maybe there will eventually be pics of my ceramics work up.

This is where it ends

I don't buy everything I read,
I haven't even read everything I've bought.
I don't cry every time I bleed,
My eyes are dry, but they're bloodshot.
I have faith in medication
I believe in the Prozac Nation
You play doctor, but I've lost patience

Chorus:
But this is where it ends
This is where it ends
Call the police and call the press
But please, dear God, don't tell my friends
This is where it ends
This is where it ends

Where's my pride? Where's my self-esteem?
Does it show in the drinks I've bought?
I don't hide every time I'm seen, but I try not to get caught.
Make excuses for behaviour
Can my illness be my saviour?
Hid my heart while you still gave yours

Chorus

She says she wants to live in a movie
I say I want someone else to stand behind me
And write it all down
'cause I can't be bothered doing it myself.
And I don't want the responsibility of
proving it's importance.

I have loved and I have waited
Been picked up and been sedated
mental health is overrated

I know I should post some art. I'm just too tired and confused tonight. Maybe tomorrow.
PS Today's fake words of the day:
Uncommitty- same as noncommittal ie "I'm feeling uncommitty about this plan, call me later and we'll see".
Homonym: spelled Uncommittee to indicate things done unilaterally or by lack of consensus, the opposite of decisions made by committee ie "So the Uncommittee of Felicia has spoken, fake words are awesome". Kinda the opposite of Jove's "3 makes fact" rule.
Enbiggen- to make larger, synonomous with Enlargen ie "Click the pic to enbiggen".
PPS Why is there no twat chat in the real world? I need ladies to bounce my love life off. Or perhaps I should just enjoy that I seem to suddenly have gotten one upon leaving Vassar and ignore the fact that everything is super complicated/confusing.

Quotes

Historically, the claim of consensus has been the first refuge of scoundrels; it is a way to avoid debate by claiming that the matter is already settled.
- Michael Crichton

Gee, I hadn't noticed.
This appears to be most of the explanation for the Republican party and the Barefoot Monkeys.

Philosophy is a battle against the bewitchment of our intelligence by means of language.
- Ludwig Wittgenstein
And this is why Philosophy annoys me. You talk in circles and never say much. But worse, you never settle or accomplish anything.

I've had a very long week and I'm tired. Dinner at George's tonight, I'm excited.
I also need to do some major work on my comic, as tomorrow is the last class.

Pictures!

Hey look, I got stupid Google to work. So, pictures.
3/9- Collage; 3/10 Listen to the Music

3/11- Orange (Yes, in orange on orange I have drawn an orange); 3/12- Sharpies

3/13- The one that got away; 3/14- Rubber Stamps ( in this shitty pic you can't tell that there's a stamp inside the heart- same as for valentine's cards, and the letters were stamped and then outlined.)

Also, I made the top hat stamp yesterday. No really, I drew it and carved it. Never made a stamp before, but a top hat seemed like the place to start. It was fun and not too difficult or time consuming, so I may make more.

I've also been working on a couple of general pages in my watercolor paper moleskine- I love the paper, but the long layout kinda annoys me.

worst. picture. ever.
That page is purple (you can see it on the top of the chakra page) and the text says What's Your STORY?
(for Creative Everyday's March Story prompt- http://creativeeveryday.com/)
Anyway, the sun has emerged, so I'm going to do the same!

More Art

I love art, more than food.

I love my journal, the way the pages warp and the book grows fat with creative juiciness as I work in it. So full of art that it strains against the elastic that desperately tries to hold it closed.
I love the safety of the journal, the freedom and lack of fear- that it's ok to make "bad" art. That in the end the whole book is much much more than any single page- the power it holds. The way when I look back at old journals, I am transported back to that part of my life. The visible growth from the beginning of the journal to the end.
I love that it's not about having made art, the final product is irrelevant, it's all about the joy of creating. That I can just play with colors, materials and techniques and see what happens. If I don't like it, I can move to a new page or just add more layers- even gesso over the whole thing if I really want to be rid of it (I almost never do this, as I can usually come back later and add more to "fix" whatever was bothering me)

Basically, nothing makes me happier than my art journal.

I'd like to post some pics of what I've been up to this week, but for whatever reason google and my  computer are conspiring against me- it keeps telling me that my uploads have failed. So you'll just have to wait.

March Art Journal Challenge and Alice (again)

So I'm following the March Art Journal Challenge here. I'm enjoying it, although I have trouble with the idea of unfinished pages. Some of these pages are frankly ugly, due to either lack of time or no clear inspiration or some combo of the two. But nonetheless, it is a good practice to try to do one every day.I was going to try to update here with pics daily, but that has so not happened. Perhaps I'll try for once a week, bearing in mind that for both sides of the spread to be done, it needs to be an even number of days. So here's the first 8 days.

3/1- Start your engines; 3/2- Credit cards

3/3- Blue; 3/4- Doodle

3/5- Past; 3/6- Present

3/7- Future; 3/7- "Wanting to be someone else is a waste of who you are" - Kant
(the small illegible text in the heart says "we're all a little bit mad here")

And because I'm still feeling very Alice themed, a spread I finished today in my Watercolor paper Moleskine.

I give myself very good advice, but I very seldom follow it....
"Be patient" is very good advice, but the waiting makes me curious.

PS Get the Almost Alice album. It's fucking awesome. I'm in love with Always Running Out of Time and pretty much everything else, except the painful Avril Lavigne song that was at the end of the movie. Which was quite good, by the way. And I want that HAT. (Plus he does a much mocked but truly epically fabulous hat dance on the framptious day. I can't remember the name of the dance though.)

Alice in Wonderland

This song is hilarious. Rap Tea Parties always make me think of sex.
http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/kerli/teaparty.html

PS I recently learned the term "aussie kiss" from cosmo (don't judge, I steal their pics for my art, also I was on the train late at night) anyway, definition: same as a french kiss, but "down under". I think that's hilarious and should make it into common usage. At least as good as "plutoed" as a word.
